An elderly woman was taken to Austin Medical Center early Thursday afternoon after sustaining bites from a pug
Lola Handahl, 81, was riding her bike past a home in the 1300 block of Second Avenue Southwest at around 2 p.m. when she heard barking from a home. According to Austin police reports, Handahl said she then felt pain in her shin area.
When she looked down she saw the dog had a hold of her leg and was shaking its head from side to side.
The report said a 12-year-old boy living at the residence had come out of the house yelling at the dog as it was running at Lola.
According to the boy, he was giving the dog some water and noticed a knot in the cord holding the dog. When he attempted to unravel it, the dog got away and took off running.
Handahl was escorted by police to AMC for multiple puncture wounds and extreme swelling. The family who owned the dog were served with potentially dangerous dog papers.
The dog had been involved in at least one other biting incident back on May 30 of this year.
