Local Century Farms honored

The Minnesota State Fair and Minnesota Farm Bureau recognize 114 Minnesota farms as 2009 Century Farms. Qualifying farms have been in continuous family ownership for at least 100 years and are 50 acres or more.
Century Farm families receive a commemorative sign, as well as a certificate signed by the State Fair and Minnesota Farm Bureau presidents and Gov. Tim Pawlenty.
Since the program began in 1976, more than 8,700 Minnesota farms have been recognized as Century Farms.
Area 2009 Century Farms and their year of original purchase include:
Mower County
Brownsdale — the Rockwell family, 1872
Grand Meadow — Eugene and Darlene Jacobson, 1887
Waltham — the Schmeling family, 1896
Steele County
Blooming Prairie — Gary, Joylene and Elmer Johnson, 1892
New Richland — Jerome and Evelyn Lee, 1909
