LETTER: Youth do a lot in Austin
Published 12:02 pm Saturday, July 25, 2009
The youth in Austin do more than play in sports. They are involved in community projects as well. They are involved in plays at Summerset Theater and Matchbox Theater. They are involved in music groups and volunteer type things.
A group of them were involved in the clean up one Saturday a while back. Those are just a few things they do.
This is something else that symbolizes youth in Austin. I am one of the captains of the Spamtown Belle. I have a first mate named Dylan Kaercher. We were talking about the upcoming Relay for Life walk on Saturday, Aug. 1.
The Spamtown Belle would be running that day. Dylan not only wanted to make sure he would be first mate that day, but he also had something else he wanted to do. He asked me about a Spamburger stand by the Spamtown Belle, with the proceeds going to Relay for Life. I told him I would check into it. I checked with chairperson for Relay for Life,
Linda Baier and told her what we wanted to do. I cleared things with Linda, and there will be a Spamburger stand for the Relay for Life walk. I also checked into getting donations so all proceeds will go to Relay for Life. Hormel Foods is providing Spam.
Hy-Vee is donating the buns. My wife and I are donating the water and soda. We are hoping to have the condiments also donated. Dylan is helping make the arrangements for the help and for the necessary requirements to have the stand.
He has a group of youth lined up to help with the venture.
Support your youth in Austin and support the Relay for Life walk at the same time. Have a Spamburger Saturday, Aug. 1.
