Irene G. Eichstadt, age 75, of Austin, died at her home on Friday, July 17, 2009.
Irene was born on March 6, 1934 to Arthur and Viola Schroeder, in Nicollet County, Minn. She grew up in the area and graduated from Dr. Martin Luther High School. She then graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College with a teaching degree. On June 27, 1956 Irene married Melvin E. Eichstadt, of Sandborn, Minn. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nicollet.
Irene was a teacher, department store sales clerk at Younkers and homemaker and a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Church. She was also a member of Ladies Aid.
Irene enjoyed her flower garden, coin and stamp collecting and bird watching.
She is survived by her husband: Melvin Eichstadt, Austin; four sons: Pastor Michael (Susan) Eichstadt, Hales Corners, Wis., Brian (Maureen) Eichstadt, Coon Rapids, Minn., Dean (Tammy) Eichstadt, Greenville, Pa., Pastor Wayne (Tina) Eichstadt, Mankato, Minn.; 10 grandchildren: Meghan, Stephen, Lauren, Gretchen, Eric, Rachel, Madison, Sarah, Caleb and Anna; four sisters: Elaine (Donald) Schwecke, Gibbon, Minn., Evelyn (Virgil) Bode, Nicollet, Minn., Margaret (Kenneth) Biesterfeld, Crete, Ill., and Ruth (Michael) Wiechmann, New Berlin, Wis.; nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July, 21, 2009 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Ted Barthels officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Monday and one hour before the service at the church. The family prefers memorials in lieu of flowers to the American Cancer Society or donor’s choice.
