Girl takes state pageant crown

Laney Hoag, 10, daughter of John and Michelle Hoag of Austin, has won the title of the 2009 National American Miss Minnesota Junior Preteen. She will be attending the National Pageant to be held in Anaheim, Calif. at Disneyland during Thanksgiving week.

In addition to the title, Laney also received awards for: first-runner up in Talent; first-runner up in Casual Wear; third-runner up in Photogenic; and first-runner up in Most Promising Model. Laney will be representing Minnesota and will have the opportunity to win her share of more than $500,000 in cash and prizes.

The National American Miss Pageants are dedicated to celebrating America’s greatness and encouraging its future leaders. Each year, the National American Miss Pageants awards 1.5 million in cash, scholarships and prizes to recognize and assist the development of young women nationwide. Emphasis is placed on the importance of gaining self-confidence, learning new skills, learning good attitudes about competition and setting and achieving personal goals.

Laney is in the fifth grade at Neveln Elementary. She participates in the school choir, safety and peace patrol and has been elected as president of student council.She also dances at Bridget’s Dance Conservatory.
