Two men were charged in Freeborn County District Court Monday with assault charges and weapons violations after they allegedly beat a 25-year-old man unconscious on Sunday by kicking him in the face and then threatening him with a loaded handgun.

The victim was airlifted from a residence on the 2000 block of S.E. Marshall Street to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester with serious head and possible spine injuries.

The two men allegedly involved are Gilo Otor Gilo, 18, of Austin, and Kim James Gatlauk, 20, of an unknown residence.

Gilo faces charges of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, possessing a firearm that was not identified by a serial number, and carrying or possessing a pistol without a permit.

Gatlauk was charged with third-degree assault.
