Anna C. Benson, 88
Anna Catherine Benson, 88, of Austin, died at Sacred Heart Care Center early Tuesday morning. 
She was born Feb. 1, 1921 to Ole M. and Lena (Turtedahl) Helle in Winnebago County, Iowa. She attended Lime Creek Day School and graduated from Austin High School in 1939. She married Palmer Benson on Sept. 5, 1943 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin. 
Anna was employed by Hormel Foods Corp. for more than 40 years, retiring on April 1, 1982. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and Hormel Retirees. Anna enjoyed playing her violin and entertained at many wedding dances, rest homes and with various bands. Her husband, Palmer, accompanied her with his guitar. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and was active in Ladies Aid at Holy Cross.
Survivors include two daughters, Joanne Benson and Patty Shatek, both, Austin; one son, Ronald Benson, Austin; two grandchildren, Nicole Shatek, Austin, DeAnna Van Zee, Sioux Falls, S.D.; sisters, Minnie (Richard) Scheffel, Lillian (Donald) Brady and Ruth (Sheldon) Lukes, all of Austin. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three brothers, Orville, Melvin and Hans Helle.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 17, 2009 at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel, Austin with the Reverend Robert Stohlmann officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 6p.m., Thursday, July 16, 2009, at Worlein Funeral Home, Austin and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.
