The Albert Lea Police Department responded to an unusual situation on Friday after they received a call of a large snake in the front yard of a residence on the 1500 block of South Broadway Avenue.
Albert Lea Police Chief Dwaine Winkels said when officers arrived at the house at about 11 a.m., they found a 6-foot-long snake that appeared to be injured.
Winkels said officers weren’t worried about the snake as it appeared to be a native species. It wasn’t too big around, and it was probably hauled in from the country somewhere.
He said it wasn’t venomous, and it wasn’t someone’s boa constrictor or python.
The snake appeared to have been run over and was taken to the Freeborn County Humane Society.
Christa Stieler with the Humane Society said the snake was being released into the wild.
