Spruce Up Austin, Inc. has decided to cancel its annual yard and garden tour in July.

Originally Saturday, July 18, the garden tour was canceled after a meeting of directors held Thursday, June 11.

The reason given for the decision was a lack of interest among local gardeners.

The organization popular monthly Yard of the Month recognition program will continue.

Each month, SUA recognizes an outstanding effort in gardening during the spring, summer, and fall growing seasons. Nominees are accepted from all Austin neighborhoods. For more information, call the Austin Area Chamber of Commerce at 437-4561.

SUA director Julie Thomsen is organizing SUA’s entry in the 2009 Spamtown USA Freedom Festival’s Fourth of July Independence Day Parade.

Ruzek also said plans will soon be finalized for enhancements to the South Main Street Project where 20 trees were planted in April to celebrate the organization’s 20th anniversary.
