Some still without power

As of late Thursday, power had returned to about 90 percent of Austin, according to a utilities spokeswoman.
Roxann Gilbertson of Austin Utilities said power is still out to about 15 homes in the Crane Chapel area near the Hormel plant because of Wednesday night’s tornadoes. There are also about 30 to 40 homes without power in the Royal Manor area near Highway 218.
Gilbertson said power to both areas is expected to be restored by the end of the day.
Austin Utilities General Manager Jerry McCarthy said 28 transmission poles broke in the storm. He said he did not have a dollar estimate on repairs, but said the poles are “expensive.” The power system is slated for a full repair by the end of next week, McCarthy said. He added that crews have been doing excellent work.
“They responded well,” he said.
