L/P’s Wittur takes fourth in state long jump

A local long jumper made her mark at the state Class ‘A’ track and field meet at Hamlne University in St. Paul Thursday.
Lyle/Pacelli’s Philline Wittur, a foreign exchange student from Germany, took fourth in the long jump as she improved on her career-best distance by over a foot.
Wittur came up with an 18-foot jump in Friday’s finals.
Analisa Huschle of Bagley/Foss won the event with a distance of 19-2.25.
Hayfield sprinter Dennis Gilbertson qualfied for Saturday’s finals in the 200-meter dash, but missed out on the 100-meter dash.
In the 200, Gilbertson was the last qualifier in the preliminaries as he was ninth with a time of 22.83 seconds. He edged out Jason Budish of Mead by .09 seconds. Cameron Boy of Jordan had the top qualifying time of 21.62 seconds.
Gilbertson was 11th in the 100-meter dash preliminary with a time of 11.21 seconds. Sklyer Jackson of Frazee had the preliminary’s top time of 10.81 seconds.
Hayfield sprinter Genessa Heide failed to qualify in both of her preliminary events.
Heide finished 12th in the 100-meter dash with a prelimanary time of 12.68 seconds. She missed qualifying for the finals by one-tenths of a second.
Ashley Tingelstad of East Grand Forks had the top qualifying time with a finish in 12.08 seconds.
In the 200-meter dash, Heide, a senior, was 11th with a time of 26.14. She missed advancing by .09 seconds.
Analisa Huschle of Bagley/Foss had the preliminary’s best time (24.51).
Grand Meadow/LeRoy/Ostrander/Southland’s Danielle Hanson failed to qualify for the finals in the 300-meter hurdles.
The eighth grader finished 15th in the preliminaries with a time of 48.18 seconds and missed advancing by about two seconds.
Bree Woebler of Pipestone had the best qualifying time as she finished in 44.37 seconds.
Hayfield’s Kiley Severson will throw in the shot put finals Saturday.
