For more than 91 years, the American Red Cross has been a hero for thousands of people throughout Mower County, lending aid during times of disaster, seeing to the welfare of military families and providing citizens with lifesaving CPR and first aid skills.

Now, many of your neighbors have shown that they can be “Heroes” for the American Red Cross. Together, several financial institutions in Mower County raised more than $3,000.

The chapter announced Thursday that the employees and members of the Accentra Credit Union won the right to display, for the second year in a row, the Heroes Campaign traveling trophy for the next year. Through bake sales, jean days, popcorn sales and other fundraising activities, they brought in $1,800 alone.

Sterling State Bank, Farmers State Bank of Adams, and Culvers Restaurant of Austin also participated in this year’s campaign.

All money raised will stay in Mower County to support local families and individuals. For more information about the work of your local chapter and how to get involved, contact your Red Cross office at 437-4589, mower arc@charter.net or stop by 305 Fourth Ave. N.W. in Austin.
