LETTER: Alcorn has the wrong idea

Columnist for the Herald, Mr. Wallace Alcorn, in my mind, gathers his thoughts to assault the younger generation. His essay, Monday, June 22, may have been intended as a tongue-in-cheek statement. To my assessment, that won’t wash. The essay is kind of a harangue by using “they” nearly two dozen times in his paragraphs — aiming his diatribe at our youth. As one pastor to another, I’ll recommend Mr. Alcorn read Psalm 51.
Most of our young people are to be commended, given recognition for their positive accomplishments. For instance, hundreds of new high school, college and vocational school graduations; the recent splendid work in painting and decorating Rachel’s House (a place where pregnancy concerns can be addressed) by the youth of Austin’s Evangelical Free Church.
The youth of the world, desiring freedom and democratic reform in many nations is inspiring. An example currently in Iran, is splendidly demonstrated. Young people, disciplined, compassionate and even taking a bullet for the cause of freedom — that’s another way to view young people!
