Pacelli junior Stephanie Kasel attended Girl’s State at Bethel University in St. Paul from June 16-20. Kasel received the distinguished honor of being elected the Girl’s State auditor as well as being chosen as a state delegate for the Federalist Party Convention.
Approximately 365 students from across Minnesota attended this program. Kasel was also in the 150-member Girl’s State choir.
Girl’s State is a week-long experience where students learn about Minnesota government at the local, county and state levels. These participants actually organized and participated in the various levels and branches of government. The training is objective and practical with city, county and state governments operated by the students elected to the various offices.
Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, chorus and recreational programs. The Girl’s State program adheres to the basic concept of teaching government from the township to the state level.
