Hazel Brandt

Hazel Mary Martha Brandt, age 92 of Blooming Prairie, died Tuesday evening, June 23, 2009 at New Richland Care Center. She was born July 29, 1916 to William and Ella (Schlaak) Billing in New Richland, Minnesota and attended country school in the area. Besides helping at home, she worked as a housekeeper for area families until her marriage to Rayman Brandt on January 15, 1941 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home in Waseca until 1943 when they moved to the Hayfield area to farm. In 1949 they returned to Waseca to farm for Joe Bardon. In 1951 they moved to the Blooming Prairie area where Hazel worked at Lark’s Supper Club. Moving into town in 1961, Hazel worked for Ressler’s, Ben Franklin and Coast to Coast, cooked at Blooming Prairie schools and babysat for families in town. A member of Bixby Westside Extension Club and First Lutheran Church WELCA in Blooming Prairie, she became a resident of the New Richland Care Center on September 6, 2005. Rayman passed away on October 7, 2006.
Survivors include children, Robert (Dorothy) Brandt of Aitkin, Allen (Betty) Brandt of Frazee; David (Linda) Brandt of Owatonna, daughter, Barbara (Allen) Dobberstein of Ellendale; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; sisters, Hilda Dobberstein of New Richland and Melinda Fennert of Waseca. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rayman; her parents; one sister Luella Herbst and a brother, Wallace, in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 26, 2009 at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie with Pastor Karl Korbel officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday at Worlein-Blooming Prairie Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Blooming Prairie Cemetery
