Hayfield sending three to state track and field meet; GMLOS sending one

A few local athletes will be competing in the state Class ‘A’ track and field meet this Friday and Saturday at Hamline University.
Hayfield had three athletes qualify for state and GrandMeadow/LeRoy/Ostrander/Southland qualified one.
Hayfield’s senior sprinter Dennis Gilbertson advanced in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.
In the 100, which will hold its preliminaries Friday at 3:28 p.m., his qualifying time of 11.44 seconds is the seventh best time out of 16 runners.
In the 200, which will hold its preliminaries Friday at 5:36 p.m., his qualifying time of 23.03 seconds is the eighth fastest out of 16 runners.
For the Hayfield girls, senior sprinter Genessa Heide and junior thrower Kiley Severson both return to the state meet after going last year.
Heide will compete in the 100-meter dash preliminaries Friday at 3:18 p.m., her qualifying time of 12.97 seconds is the 14th best out of the 19 runners.
She will run in the 200-meter dash preliminaries Friday at 5:26 p.m. and her qualifying time of 26.51 seconds is the 12th fastest time out of the 18 qualifiers.
Heide took sixth at state in both sprints last season.
Severson will throw in the shot put finals Saturday at 3 p.m. Her qualifying distance of 38 feet, 10.5 inches is the sixth best qualifying throw out of 17 state qualifiers.
Severson took fifth in shot put at state last year.
For GMLOS, eighth grade hurdler Danielle Hanson will compete in the 300-meter hurdle preliminaries Friday at 4:32 p.m.
Her qualifying time of 47.21 seconds is the 13 best in the field of 18.
Runners must finish in the top nine to advance to Saturday’s finals.
