George Dahl, 60
George Dahl, 60, of Austin, died on June 19, 2009, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. 
He was born July 22, 1948, in St. Louis Park, Minn., the son of Henry and Martha Johanna (Grosland) Dahl. He lived in St. Louis Park, Rochester and then Austin as a child. He attended school in Austin. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. George was a civic minded and politically active in trying to achieve social reform nationally, statewide and in Austin. George was an accomplished musician and the interest and ability was evident from early childhood. He played in several bands over the years in, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Brainerd and Austin, including the Cracker Jack Band and Radio Cats, now performing as Plan B. He was a drummer and in his later years, spent many hours playing his guitar. George returned to Austin in 1984. He was one of the founder’s of the Hambone Blues Jam held annually in Austin since 2001.
He is survived by his daughter, Jane Beck, Wilmington, N.C.; mother, Martha Dahl, Austin; half-brothers, Stanley Estes and special friend, June Varner, Little Falls and E. Dean (Mary) Estes, Avondale, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Beverly Estes, Northwood, Iowa; several aunts and uncles; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. 
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Dahl and half-brother, Maynard Estes.
Memorials services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Todd Portinga, Associate of Ministry, officiating. Interment will be held at Hill Crest Cemetery in Albert Lea. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at St. Olaf Lutheran Church on Wednesday. The Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
