In addition to the Mower County Fair and ideal biking and running conditions, summertime in southern Minnesota is home to various festivals specific to each small town.
It all kicks off this coming weekend with Dairy Days in Adams, set for June 13 and 14.
Festivities include a cow-milking contest, an ice cream eating competition, an antique tractor pull and a parade, complete with retired police chief Gordon Briggs, and wife, Terry, as grand marshals.
Other festivals this summer include Dexter’s Sunflower Daze on June 20, Grand Meadow Fest June 27-29, the Independence Day celebration in Blooming Prairie July 3 and July 4; Freedom Fest in Austin July 3, 4 and 5; the Rose Creek Festival July 10-12; Brownsdale Fest July 17 and 18; LeRoy’s Summerfest July 17-19; and Hayfield’s Hey Days July 24 through July 26.
These festivals are an important part of what makes our communities special. They are a chance for us to spend time with the residents we know and perhaps meet some folks we don’t.
We encourage all of our residents to get outside as much as possible this season and attending these festivities is a good way to do it.
