EDITORIAL: Baseball and Austin go well together

Austin is a baseball town, and the tradition lives on this summer through two very good amateur teams, the Austin Greyhounds and the Austin Blue Sox.
Fans have the perfect opportunity to see both teams in action tonight in a promotion game that begins at 8 p.m. at Marcusen Park.
The event includes games with prizes for kids, including a bean bag toss and a bull-pen dash.
“It should be definitely a good matchup and a fun game for people to watch,” said John Frein, Greyhounds player and general manager. “It’s actually kind of a treat to have two quality teams in town. It’s really rare to have two quality teams in the same town anywhere in Minnesota and probably across the nation.”
The two teams have already played once this season. It was a 3-2 Blue Sox win in a game where Greyhounds pitcher Dave Meyer had a no hitter going into the eighth with his team up 2-0.
Tonight’s game is a great chance to take in some good baseball action and to support our local amateur teams at the same time.
