A Hayfield pitcher made a dramatic recovery in a 7-6 Viking win over Zumbrota/Mazeppa (9-2 overall) Tuesday.
Hayfield sophomore Shane Naylor recovered from allowing six runs in the first two innings to pitch the Vikings to the win. After giving up a three-run homer in the second, Naylor allowed just one hit over the next four innings.
“He just kind of locked down after that,” Hayfield head coach Craig Selk said. “He really got control of his curve and he was throwing it into the wind, so it was pretty devastating.”
Hayfield (8-6 overall) took the lead for good in the fourth when Naylor came up with a run-scoring groundout.
Hayfield pitching: Naylor (W), 6 IP, 4 H, 5 BB, 6 ER, 2 K; Tyler Krekling, 1 IP, 0 R, 2 K
