Robert J. Carroll, 72
Robert James Carroll, 72, Austin, died on May 3, 2009, at the Austin Medical Center in Austin. 
He was born Oct. 5, 1936, at home in Lyle, Minn., the son of Milford and Wilma (DeMaris) Carroll. He attended school in Lyle, graduating from Lyle High School in 1956. Following graduation, Robert enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving from Aug. 1, 1956 until his discharge on July 31, 1960. After his discharge, Robert returned to Minnesota where he lived for a short time before moving to California. On March 4, 1963, he was united in marriage to Lynnette Bakke in Winterhaven, Calif. Robert worked for Edward’s Distributors as an order desk clerk for wholesale building materials and later was promoted to Manager of the National City, California branch office. He served there for twelve years and on July 17, 1975, the couple moved to Austin, Minnesota. While living in Austin, Robert worked as a bartender at the Lyle Liquor and the Moose Club in Austin until his retirement in 1999. He was a former member of the Lyle American Legion Post #105 and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Robert is survived by his wife, Lynnette Carroll, Austin; two sisters, Nancy Alm, Austin and Sandra Berg, Stillwater; one sister-in-law, Audrey Carroll, Austin; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milford and Wilma Carroll; one brother, Donovan and two brothers-in-laws, Larry Alm and Manley Berg.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 105 will follow the service in Woodbury Cemetery, rural Lyle, Minn. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 5, at the Worlein Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
