The Rebels baseball team struck early and held on to beat Lewison/Altura (12-6 overall) 5-0 in Adams Monday.

Adam Keifer opened things with a solo homer in the second inning and the Rebels (10-7 overall) added four more runs in the third.

“That home run was a big lift for us, because we haven’t had a lot of long balls this year,” Southland head coach Scott Retterath said.

Chris May had a solid start for Southland as he went all seven innings, allowing just two hits and one walk, while striking out six.

“Chris had his cutter and his changeup working,” Retterath said. “They’re a good hitting team and he kept them off-balanced.”
