In a rollercoaster game of ups and downs, the Riverland Community College softball team ended its season Saturday in the consolation game at the regional tournament in Rochester.

In their final game of the year, the Blue Devils dropped an 11-10 decision to Madison and finished with an overall record of 18-18, good enough for third in the region and fourth in the state.

“It was just a terrific year,” said Dave Lillemon, Riverland head coach.

In a game filled with emotions, Elizabeth Triplett connected for a three-run homerun in the first inning and finished three for four at the plate. Laura Meyer went three for four as well; Justine Sanvick went two for four; Danielle Lynch went two for four; while Mandy May went two for three.

Riverland led 3-0 off Triplett’s three-run shot before Madison came back in what would be the first of the game’s many lead changes.

“We battled,” Lillemon said. “It was a great effort on our part.”

Riverland scored 10 runs on 15 hits, and Meyer finished her season with a 33-game winning streak.
