Oscar A. Sater, 97
Oscar Adolph Sater, 97, of Austin, died on May 6, 2009 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin. 
He was born Aug. 13, 1911 to Olaf and Anna (Kjos) Sater in Spring Grove, Minn. After graduation from Spring Grove High School in 1932, he worked as a farm laborer in Spring Grove before moving to Austin in 1941 to begin employment with Geo. A. Hormel and Co. He entered the U.S. Army at Fort Snelling 345th Ordinance Depot Company on May 30, 1942, taking basic training at Warren, Wyo. He was transferred to Pacific Theater with the rank of technical sergeant. He served in Asiatic-Pacific Theater, New Guinea and the Philippines. After an honorable discharge on Jan. 5, 1946, Oscar returned to Austin and continued his employment with Geo. A. Hormel and Co. in the fancy meat department. He married Leona Agnes Lester on July 12, 1949 in Woden, Iowa. They made their home in Austin where they lived their entire married life. Oscar retired after 35 years in 1976. He became an employee of Worlein Funeral Home in 1981. Leona died on Jan. 11, 1989.  A member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Oscar belonged to the Moose Lodge and was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216.
Family members include one sister-in-law, Hazel Sater, Austin; nephews, Oren (Kathy) Sater, Indianapolis, Ind. and Gary (Jan) Sater, Brooklyn Park;  nephew-in-law, Dean Brandsoy, Austin; great-nephew, Matthew Brandsoy, Austin; great-niece, Dena Brandsoy, Fridley; special friend since 1992, Rose Grebin, Austin. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Olaf and Anna Sater; wife, Leona Sater; brother, Arnold Sater; niece, Sharon Brandsoy; sister, Cora Halverson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May, 11, 2009 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Reverend Kristi Koppel officiating. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216 will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
