Norman Hovde, 93, of LeRoy died on May 25, 2009 at Sunrise Cottages in Rochester where he had resided for about a month.
Norman Bernard Hovde was born July 20, 1915 in New England, N.D. to Ben Hovde and Nellie Walker Hovde. As a young child his family moved to the LeRoy area where he attended school through the 8th grade. He was united in marriage to Madonna Kiefer on Oct. 1, 1940 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams and together they farmed in the LeRoy area. In 1972 they moved into LeRoy where Norman managed the Phillips 66 gas station for many years. He then purchased Hovde Disposal which he operated until retiring in 1992.
He is survived by three daughters, Mary Jane (Jim) Theobald, Rochester, Minn., Diane Johnson, Houston, Minn., Cathy (Leslie) Storlie, Spring Grove, Minn.; three sons, Tom (Barb) Hovde and Jim (Pat) Hovde both of LeRoy, Minn. and Ken (Tarry) Hovde, Hammond, Minn.; 18 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Madonna in 1997 and two great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2009 at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in LeRoy with Father Steve Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in LeRoy from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be a Rosary Recited at 4:30 p.m. Friends may also call one prior to the service at the church. Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy is in charge of arrangements.
