Mel C. Iverson, 99, formerly of LeRoy, May 2, 2009 at the Harmony Health Care Center in Harmony where he has resided for the last 2 years.
Melvin Casper Iverson was born March 12, 1910 in Lodi, Twp. Mower County to Knute Iverson and Mary Hiller Iverson. He attended country school in Lodi Twp. And LeRoy School through the 9th grade and on Jan. 10, 1934 he was united in marriage to Bernice Conlon at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in LeRoy. Five daughters where born to this union, Colleen, Diane, Kay, Mary and Connie.
In the late 30’s Mel took over the Standard Oil Bulk Service for the LeRoy area and retired in 1972. He served on The LeRoy-Ostrander School Board and was a volunteer fireman serving as the LeRoy Fire Chief for many years. Mel enjoyed golfing, gardening, water aerobics and was a member of St Patrick’s Catholic Church for 75 years.
He is survived by his daughters; Colleen (Bob) Brownlow , LeRoy, Minn., Diane (Gene) Hoffman of Newton, Iowa, Kay (Bill) Pompeii of Rochester, Minn., Mary (Doug) Austin, Stevens Point, Wis. and Connie (Steve) Lindstrom, Harmony, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. Mel is also survived by one sister; Betty (Herbert) Landeck, Bermuda Dunes, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernice in January of 1995; a grandson; 5 sisters and 5 brothers.
A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday May 8, 2009 at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in LeRoy with Father Steven Peterson officiating. Burial will take place in the St Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Church from 10 A.M. till time of service on Friday.
