An Austin man was treated at Austin Medical Center following a dog bite Tuesday afternoon.

According to Austin police reports, Elvin Sylvestry, 24, was playing basketball with two friends at Rotary Centennial Park at around 2:22 p.m. when the bite occurred.

Sylvestry told the community service officer that he observed a woman, identified as Jennifer Santiago, 27, with the dog in the park, playing fetch. At one point, the dog came over to where the men were playing basketball.

Sylvestry said he believed the dog was going for the basketball, but got his leg above the knee instead, leaving three punctures. Santiago came over and asked Sylvestry if he was hurt and he said no and Santiago left the park.

Sylvestry later went to AMC because the bite started to hurt.

Santiago later found out police were looking for her and voluntarily went to the Law Enforcement Center.

Santiago was given a citation for dog running at large, and the dog is being held for 10 days at the Mower County Humane Society because Santiago couldn’t provide proof of vaccination.
