Lowell R. Moen, 77
Lowell Roger Moen, 77, left this “vale of tears” to live in the arms of his Savior on May 3, 2009 surrounded by his family at the Clairemont Nursing Home in Eau Claire.
I am the resurrection, and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. (John 11:25-26.)
He was born on Sept. 30, 1931 in Albert Lea, Minn., to Gustav and Anna Marie (Wangsness) Moen. He was baptized into God’s family on Oct. 25, 1931. He grew up in Albert Lea, graduating from high school there in 1949. After high school, he was employed by Austin State Bank Insurance Agency in Austin. Shortly afterward, he was drafted into the U.S. Army for two years, serving in the Korean War as a member of the Signal Corps from 1952 to 1954. He returned to work at the Austin State Bank Insurance Agency and attended Agents School at the Aetna Casualty & Surety Co. home office in Hartford, Conn., graduating in 1956. On Dec. 14, 1958, he was married to Rita Jo Allen of Austin. He then transferred to the State Bank of Northfield, Minn., but in 1961 accepted a position at the Sterling State Bank in Austin. In 1964, he then worked as office manager of the J.A. Ramseth Agency, Inc. of Austin. In the meantime, he also kept financial books for two Austin beauty salons, doing this work in the evenings. Doing the Lord’s work, Lowell voluntarily served as Treasurer of the Church of the Lutheran Confession (CLC) from 1964 to 2003. Also, in 1976, he gratefully accepted the position as Business Manager and Book House Manager at Immanuel Lutheran College in Eau Claire, Wis., retiring in 2003 after 27 years of faithful and dedicated service.
The Lord blessed Lowell and Rita with three children, Kevin (Debra) Moen, Eau Claire, Wis., Kermit (Sandy) Moen, Eau Claire, Wis. and Kyle (Christy) Moen of Inver Grove Heights, Minn. In addition to his children, he is survived by his wife of 50 years; two grandchildren, Emma and Lilah; one sister, Margaret Hoeper, Austin; one niece, Judy (David) Bulger, Rochester, Minn.; and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and one brother-in-law.
During his retirement years, he and Rita enjoyed taking day trips to various antique shops in the area and loved to go fishing with his sons, Kevin and Kermit, and other fishing buddies.
Lowell faced many health challenges throughout his long life, especially in the last years. No matter what physical tests the Lord presented him, no one who knew him ever heard him complain. During his times spent in the hospital or nursing home, he cheerfully and gladly accepted God’s Word no matter how tired or hurt he was. His tremendous show of faith followed him all the way until he finally reached his Heavenly Home.
A victory service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, Wis., with Pastor Mark Gullerud and Pastor Paul Tiefel officiating. Private interment will occur prior to this service with visitation at the church beginning at 2 p.m. The family requests that memorial be directed to the Immanuel Lutheran College Building Fund. Stokes, Prock and Mundt Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
