Lola M. Umhoefer, age 96, of Austin, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Primrose Retirement Community in Austin.
 Lola was born Aug. 17, 1912 in Burlington, Iowa to Walter and Maude (Smith) Hilliard. She grew up in Burlington, graduated high school and then graduated from the University of Iowa in 1939. She married Harold Umhoefer on June 18, 1946 at St. James Catholic Cathedral in Fresno, Calif.
 Lola was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Austin, the Austin Floral Club, a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, and a life member of the University of Iowa Alumni Association. She was an avid reader and she enjoyed gardening, flowers and bird watching.
 Lola is survived by her sister, Margaret Patterson, Lombard, Ill., and her nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harold, in 1971.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Clasen-Jordan Chapel with the Reverend Lynn Adwell officiating.  Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.  Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Chapel on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
 Memorials are preferred to the Mower County Historical Society or the Mower County Humane Society.
