Arguably, his fans would say all tickets are a bargain.

Gifted with one of the most recognizable voices in popular music, Havens has a soulful singing style that remains unique and ageless. It’s a voice that has inspired and electrified audiences from the Woodstock Music and Arts Fair in 1969 to the Clinton Presidential Inauguration in 1993.

All baby boomers will remember: This is the man who was the opening act 40 years ago at Woodstock in upstate New York.

Born Jan. 21, 1941 in Brooklyn, N.Y., Havens is an American folk singer and guitarist; perhaps best known for his intense rhythmic guitar style and soulful covers of pop and folk songs.

“Mixed Bag” was the first album release.

“No One Left to Crown” is his latest.

The 1971 release of “Alarm Clock” featured a rendition of The Beatles” “Here Comes the Sun.”

It became Havens’ first album to chart on the Billboard Top 30.

For a brief period in the mid-1970s, Havens performed with Peter Yarrow and Paul Stookey as “Peter, Paul and Richie.”

The artist answered every fan’s need-to-know question, thusly, “I learned how to play in order to sing the songs I heard in Greenwich Village in the late 1950s into the early 60s. They were a different kind of song than the Doo Wop songs I sang in Brooklyn with my friends. They were songs that made me think and even confirmed many of my own theories about human beings and what we were supposed to be,” Havens stated on his Web page.

Austin’s Paramount Theatre is the perfect place to experience the pop music icon.

The source of so many memories for generations of theater-goers will certainly supply a few more when Havens takes the stage May 29.

Originally constructed in 1929, the theatre is a unique atmospheric theatre with a Spanish motif. It is one of four atmospheric theatres left in Minnesota and the only one outside Minneapolis still used as a theatre.

It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is located at 125 Fourth Ave. N.E. in downtown Austin.

The box office is open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday (except holidays).
