Hayfield kept its season alive by beating Goodhue 4-3 and topping Randolph 10-0 at the Subsection 1A West Division baseball playoffs Saturday at Riverland.
The second-seeded Vikings (14-10 overall) will play the loser of the Blooming Prairie vs. Southland game Monday for a trip to the Section 1A tournament.
Hayfield’s Shayn Naylor ripped a one-out, two-run double in the sixth inning to give his team a 4-2 lead in the sixth inning and Naylor also got the win on the mound as he held No. 9 Goodhue to three hits.
“Shayn pitched great and he threw a lot of strikes,” Hayfield head coach Craig Selk said. “It was a quick, well played game.”
In the second game, Hayfield came out strong as Tyler Nelson lifted a triple off the left field wall to open the game and the Vikings scored four in the first frame.
“After the Goodhue game I told them we’ve got to get the bats going or we’ll be done,” Selk said. “We came out and took the wind right out of them.”
