Floyd Mathison, 85
Floyd Mathison, 85, died on May 10, 2009 at Crestview Villa, Hayfield.
Floyd was born to Albert and Grace (Nagel) Mathison on Sept. 11, 1923 in Forestville Township. He attended Forestville and Wykoff schools and farmed with his family. On Aug. 3, 1946 he married Lillian Meinen. He started working at the Austin Hormel plant in 1948 and continued working there for 33 years. God, family, hunting and gardening were very important parts of his life. He had a great memory and enjoyed sharing stories with all. He enjoyed music and sang in the church choir. He looked forward to family reunions in order to “catch up” on all the news. People told Floyd he raised some of the best tasting tomatoes around. The people he met through his hunting became lifelong friends. Floyd and Lil enjoyed travel trips to see our great country and meet new people. Their love of travel was passed on to both of their children. Floyd had a smile for everyone and a twinkle in his eye that will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian; daughter, LaRhee and special friend Hrustan Dizdarevic, Mason City; son, Jack and special friend DeeAnn Randall, Austin; brother-in-law, Wayne Sheldon, Duluth; two grandsons, Blake (Katie) Janson and Brock (Annette) Janson; great-grandson, Brian; two great-granddaughters, Samantha and Jerica; three step-grandchildren, Jim, Corinna and Naomi Gunderson; three step-great-grandchildren, Chantelle (Ben), Cody, and Gunner; step-great-great-grandson, Gavon, all of Michigan; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Grace Mathison; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Geneva (Herschel) Berning and Delphine (Earl) Stoskopf; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Alton (Geneva) Mathison, Milton (Ruby) Mathison, Lyle (Clarice) Mathison; niece, infant nephew and infant niece; sister-in-law, Bernice Sheldon.
