A few tough plays in the field hurt the Austin softball team as it fell to Red Wing 10-6 in the first round of the Section 1AAA playoffs Wednesday at Todd Park.
No. 10 seeded Austin (7-14 overall) committed four errors that led to nine unearned runs by the seventh-seeded Wingers (9-12 overall).
“Marie (Clennon) did a nice job and our hitters did well,” Austin head coach Steve Knox said. “We just had some defensive mistakes at the wrong times and we allowed some runs we never should have.”
The Packers will play No. 5 Farmington (10-8 overall) Friday at 5 p.m in Todd Park in an elimination game. The winner of that contest will play again at 7 p.m.
“Farmington hits the ball well, but they had some defensive troubles in their loss to Owatonna,” Knox said. “It’ll be a good matchup.”
