Elizabeth “Bette” Norgaard, 84, of Nevis, Minn., died on Thursday May 7, 2009 at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids, Minn.
Elizabeth Hildegaarde Kramer was born on May 2, 1925 in Stacyville, Iowa, the daughter of Lorenz and Francis (Puettman) Kramer. She grew up in Meyer, Iowa. Bette attended grade school through the eighth grade. Following school, she resided in Waterloo, Iowa where she was employed at different places, including the Rath packing plant and waitressing. Bette was united in marriage to Norman Norgaard on April 3, 1945 at Queen of Angels Church in Austin. They were blessed with four children: N. Alan, Peggy, Charles and Dawn. 
Bette was a homemaker who enjoyed spending her summer weekends at their lake home at French Lake in Faribault, Minn.; her work within the church; playing cards and dancing. Upon Norman’s retirement in 1982, they moved to Nevis, where she would become actively involved with the Nevis Senior Citizens Center. For years, Bette and Norman would spend their winters in Arizona until Bette’s illness. Both Bette and Norman are members of First English Lutheran Church of Dorset, Minn. Both were former members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Austin and Bethany Lutheran Church in Nevis.
Bette was known for her smile and her laughter.  She will be truly missed by her family and friends.
Bette is survived by her husband, Norman Norgaard, Nevis; four children, N. Alan Norgaard, Nevis, Peggy Ciampi, Nevis, Charles (Mary) Norgaard, Lake Crystal, Minn., Dawn (Ronald) Anderson, Chetek, Wis.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Elmo (Eleanor) Kramer, Ackley, Iowa, Fred (Verena) Kramer, Stacyville, Iowa, Kenneth (Lorraine) Kramer, Adams, Minn.; sister, Lori (Dick) King, Rose Creek, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Ian Norgaard; son-in-law, Ronald Heimerman; four brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held on Sunday May 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Nevis. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 11, at 11 a.m. at the First English Lutheran Church in Dorset. The Reverend Chris Davis will be the officiant. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday. Casket bearers will be Eric Norgaard, Robin Heimerman, Derek Small, Peter Norgaard, Nick Folk and Ray Wesley.
Interment will be held at the Lakeview Cemetery in Nevis. Arrangements are being held by the Cease Family Funeral Home of Park Rapids and Nevis.
