Bullet goes through apartments

No one was injured Friday evening when a single round from a high-powered rifle was discharged in an apartment building in the 900 block of First Drive Northwest.

According to an Austin Police Department report, a 39-year-old man told officers he believed his 30.06 caliber rifle was empty of ammunition, when he pulled the trigger and a single round discharged from the weapon.

The bullet traveled through the man’s bedroom wall, through another apartment and came to a rest in a common area of the building.

The second apartment was occupied at the time by two people, who were also not injured.

The incident was reported by the owner of the rifle at 8:16 p.m. Friday.

The man told police he also went to the next-door apartment to see if anyone was injured.

According to the police report, the incident will be referred to the Austin city attorney for review.
