Austin had a solid outing at the Section 1AAA boys golf meet, but it wasn’t enough as the Packers settled for third place Tuesday in Hastings.
Austin shot a score of 309 and finished with a two-day total of 629. The trouble for Austin was that Lakeville North and Century also shot a 309 on Tuesday and North clinched first and a trip to state with a two-day score of 636.
“I thought we had a great chance and then their last two golfers come in with great scores,” Austin head coach Will Pazurek said. “You’d like to be able to go back and start over, but I’m happy with how we played.”
Individually Drew Osier is headed back to the ‘AAA’ state meet for Austin after he finished tied for second overall with a two-day score of 152.
After shooting a 41 on the front nine, Osier, a senior, rebounded to shoot two under PAR on the back nine.
“The back is tougher than the front, so that was an amazing job by Drew,” Pazurek said.
Osier took 56th place last season at state, but could finish much better this year.
“Most everyone who finished ahead of him graduated last year, so he’s got a good chance to place well this time,” Pazurek said. “It helps when you’ve played the course once.”
Garrett Erstad finished with a 75 on Tuesday and had a two-day score of 157. He finished ninth overall and missed the state meet by two spots.
Nick Tabor shot a 78 for Austin on Tuesday and finished 10th overall, James Thorson shot an 80, Luke Hoefflin had an 80, and Drake Brehmer shot an 83.
The class ‘AAA’ state golf meet starts next Tuesday at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids.
Austin scores (two-day totals): Osier, 152; Erstad, 157; Tabor, 158; Brehmer, 165; Hoefflin, 167
