Alvin ‘Bud’ Norman

Alvin L. “Bud” Norman, age 88, of Austin, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the Austin Medical Center.
 Bud was born Sept.12 1920 near Rockwell, Iowa to Frank and Stella Norman.  He attended school at Hollandale and Oakland, Minn.  Bud moved with his parents to the Austin area in 1938. 
As a youth he worked on the Sheedy Bro. Dairy farm. Bud entered the Army in August 1942. He drove mail truck through the North African and Italian campaigns. While in the military, he purchased the house in Austin that his parents were living in. Bud was discharged in December 1945.  On returning home, he was employed by Martin Bustad and Son Construction Co. operating heavy equipment and plowing snow around southern Minnesota.
On Aug. 3, 1946 he was united in marriage to Eva La Rene Bonsall. In 1971 Bud took a job with Ulland Brothers Construction where he worked until he retired in 1982.
Bud’s biggest pleasures were doing for others, whether it was from making something for them in his wood work shop or making peanut brittle during the holiday season.
Survivors include his wife: Eva Norman, Austin; two sons: Bryce (Carolyn) Norman, Waseca, Minn., Lynn (Julie) Norman, East Aurora, N.Y.; three grandchildren: Eric Norman, Renee (Jon) Stoltz, Justin Norman; two sisters: Lorna Krob, Austin, Wilma Madison, Rice Lake, Wis.
He is preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, George, Bruce, Ivan, Everett, Floyd; four sisters, Reva, Norva, Leona, Gail.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2009 at Crane Community Chapel with Pastor Dale Christiansen officiating.  Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91.
