A suspect was taken into custody at gunpoint early Sunday evening.
Citizens reported seeing a mud-covered man, wearing hip-waders, with the pistol-grip of a shotgun protruding from his pants, walking in the vicinity of Marcusen Park early Sunday evening.
An Austin Police Department officer responded to the report and took the man into custody.
Three other long guns were discovered in the area when the arrest was made 7:25 p.m. Sunday.
There was a sawed-off, pistol-gripped, 20-gauge shotgun taken from the man’s pants, police said.
The weapon was loaded with five rounds of ammunition, and the safety was in the “off” position. The other weapons found about 100 feet from the point of the man’s arrest in the Marcusen Ballpark-Lafayette Public Park area were all rifles.
Among the witnesses was a carload of male subjects, driving through the park area, and a man walking his dog.
A 20-year-old man was jailed overnight, pending the Mower County attorney’s review of the arrest report.
The guns may have been taken in a burglary of Austin Tent and Awning, 1209 Fourth Street S.E.
Police recovered other items reported missing from the Austin business located in the vicinity of where the suspect was taken into custody. No shots were fired when the man was arrested. According to the police report, in addition to the shotgun stuck in the front of his pants, he was carrying a long knife from his belt.
