Austin baseball team drops two to Huskies

The Austin baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Owatonna by scores of 12-1 and 8-1 Thursday at Seltz Field.
The Packers (3-10 overall, 2-10 Big Nine) had to go deep into their rotation as their top three starters had already pitched this week. Robert Wahlert started the first game and lasted five innings while allowing nine hits and four earned runs, and Joel Swatfager pitched the second game, allowing seven hits and seven earned runs in five innings.
“It was a tough day for us,” Austin head coach Troy Watkins said. “Having five games in four days is too much. We didn’t come out ready to play and it showed. Our guys were lackluster.”
Austin never threatened in either game as they fell behind 4-0 after three innings in both games. The Packers had as many errors (7) as they had hits on the night.
“It was the worst we’ve played all season and I think the schedule probably helped that,” Watkins said. “But you still have to come out and battle. We were generous hosts, we gave them a lot of bases and runs. You can’t do that and expect to win ball games.”
