Mower County area residents are reminded of Saturday’s 2009 Scouting For Food project.

Residents are asked to place non-perishable food items in double-plastic grocery bags on their front porches before 9 a.m. Saturday.

Such dishes as canned meats and vegetables, soup, stew, chili, pasta, rice, meat sauce, cereal, canned fruits and vegetables and baby food and formula are sought as well as paper products, including diapers and tissues.

Southern Trails District Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and Cub Scouts will collect the food items and transport them to the Salvation Army Austin Corps emergency food pantry for distribution to the hungry.

The scouts will complete their food collection by noon Saturday.
