Catholic school students are celebrating music throughout this month because March is Music in our Schools Month (MIOSM). What began as a single day statewide celebration in 1973 has since grown over the years to become a month long celebration where music education becomes the focus of schools across the nation. The Music Educator’s National Conference sponsors MIOSM and the celebration grows each year, reaching more students, teachers, musicians and music supporters.
During the month of March singers will perform throughout the community.
On Wednesday, the Pacelli Lyrix singers sang at the Lenten Service at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
On Monday, Pacelli students will be competing in the MN State High School League, Section “A” Solo and Small Ensemble Music Competition at Riverland Community College. Pacelli students have performed very well in recent years. They have won the “Best On Site” award for the past six years.
On Tuesday, Pacelli’s Four of a Kind quartet will be delivering “Paddy-Grams.” These musical messages with a twist of Irish humor will delight your families and friends. For $20 the recipient will receive a candy treat, a flower, plus a lovely tune to warm their hearts from the singing shamrocks. Delivery of the Paddy-Grams will be from 8 a.m. until noon that day. Order soon (437-3278) as the time slots are filling up quickly.
A kindergarten through 12th grade music assembly will be held Thursday at 1:15 p.m. in the Pacelli gym. This assembly will not only showcase each grades musical talent but also those of the Catholic School choirs, Clover Choir, Shamrock Singers, Pacelli Singers, Lyrix and Four of a Kind. This assembly is free of charge and open to the public.
Pacelli choir students will end the month long celebration of music with their biannual choir trip.
On Friday, March 27, high school music students and chaperones will be heading to St. Louis, Mo.
Students will have several musical and sightseeing opportunities while they are on this trip. The choir entourage will return Tuesday, March 31.
