Jacqueline Alma (Abney) Bouie-Green, 55, passed away on March 10, 2009.
Jacqueline came into this world with determination, born to Ervin and Isabelle Elizabeth (Spady) Abney on July 25, 1953 in Philadelphia.  Four months early and weighing only 3 pounds, she knew she had a mission to accomplish, and she would not let anything deter her from that mission.  Educated by the Catholic School System, first attending St. Malachy Elementary School, then Mercy Vocational High School, Jackie was a gifted singer and a basketball coach.
Looking to create a better life for her son, Braheim, and daughter, Catherine, she left Philadelphia and relocated in 1995 to Austin, where she worked at the Social Security Office.  She enjoyed bingo and shopping. When health problems threatened to stop her, first, diabetes, congestive heart failure, breast cancer and then a stroke, she said, “Not so!”  She amazed doctors by defying the odds and showing progress when she was told it was not possible.  She said that the move to Austin was the best thing for her and her children.
Always needing to work, at Cedar Valley Services and then Kmart for the past five years, she would spend the weekend in the hospital when her kidneys began to fail and rush back to work on Monday.  When asked why she wouldn’t stop working, she replied, “If I stop, I’ll leave here.”  Jackie received a gift of life from a stranger who donated a kidney in December, and she felt things finally turning around.  God needed another member for his choir, and he called Jackie home to be with him on the morning of March 10, 2009.
She leaves to mourn her passing a daughter, Catherine Bouie of Minneapolis; a son, Braheim Bouie of Austin; two sisters, Gertrude “Trudy” Allen-Barron of Austin; Michelle Abeny of Philadelphia; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, March 16, 2009 at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin with visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. prior to the service on Monday. Burial will be at a later date in Philadelphia.
