A discarded cigarette was to blame Wednesday for smoke filling a house in southeast Austin.

The source was a partially melted flower pot in the basement of the house.

According to police reports, the pot was removed and firefighters vented the house. Martha Cornellier and her two dogs, who were home at the time, were allowed back in the house after it was deemed safe.

It was later determined that Kevin Cornellier had put the cigarette in the pot at around 1:15 p.m. and then had left the house.
