Bedrettin “Ted” Cakmar, 87, of Austin, died on March 22, 2009.
Bedrettin “Ted” Cakmar was born July 1, 1921 in Erzurum, Turkey. He married Serife Salbasi on Aug. 28, 1941 in Istanbul, Turkey. In 1942 he entered the Turkish army in Istanbul and was discharged in 1950 attaining the rank of Captain. From 1950 to 1988 he was self employed in the import – export business. He lived in Turkey, Germany, and in the United States since 1988.
Surviving are his wife Serife; children, Oktay (Filiz) Cakmar, El Paso, Texas, Iclal (John) Buckles, Austin, Aydin (Anne) Cakmar, Melbourne, Australia, Ferda (Sakin) Aksan, Rochester, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Deya Cakmar, Marc and Alex Rayman, Jonathan Buckles, Lutfiye and Rehana Aksan, Jessica and Lawrence Cakmar; two great-grandchildren, Elijah and Zoe Rayman; brother, Aytekin Cakmar, Huntington Beach, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fevzi and Sukriye Cakmar; three brothers, Sedat, Faruk and Selcuk Cakmar.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Oakwood Cemetery, Austin with the Reverend Glenn Monson officiating. Worlein Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
