Austin swimmers have tough luck at state

The Austin swimmers had tough luck at the Class ‘A’ state boys meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis Friday.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Zach Rausch, Jordan Stasi, Eric Lenway, and Jaceb Crews just missed advancing to Saturday’s competition, as did Crews in the 50-yard freestyle.

The relay team took 17th (top 16 advance) as it swam the event in 1:34.69, which was six-tenths of a second slower than the squad’s state-qualifying time. Austin missed advancing to the consolation on Saturday by five-tenths of a second, as a team from Perham took 16th with a time of 1:34.18.

A team from Breck/Blake had the fastest time in Class ‘A’ Friday at 1:29.14.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Crews finished 17th in the preliminaries missing Saturday’s consolation round by .05 seconds. Crews, a senior, swam a season-best time of 23.05 seconds, but was edged out by Red Wing’s Tyler Moulton, who swam the event in 23 seconds.

Tim Walker of D/C/Litch had the best Class ‘A’ time on Friday at 21.51 seconds.
