Alice Rose Kuhn, age 93, of Grand Meadow, Minn. died Thursday March 12, 2009 at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center in Grand Meadow.
Alice was born July 7, 1915 on the family farm south of Grand Meadow to William and Rose Kuhn. She attended and graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1933 and then attended Winona Teachers College. She taught school in one-room school houses at Sargent and Grand Meadow, where she found teaching, especially reading, rewarding.
She was united in marriage to Harry Lewis at the Congregational Church in Grand Meadow on August 28, 1939 and to this union a son Terry was born in 1940.
Alice worked as a waitress, grocery clerk, librarian and first and foremost a homemaker. She loved her family and enjoyed window shopping , sewing, gardening, dancing and her cats.
She is survived by her son Terry, Tucson, Ariz., and one niece, Monica, of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry, in 2003; and a sister, Harriett Torgrimson.
A memorial service for Alice will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday March 17, 2009 at the United Church in Grand Meadow with the Rev. Karen Ashton officiating. Burial will take place in the Grand Meadow Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2009.
