The idea is to encourage people to help others.

Younkers’ Community Day is coming Saturday, Feb. 28.

According to Kris Mayer, events coordinator for the Younkers Store at Oak Park Mall, already 23 non-profit groups have signed up to participate.

The non-profits will be asked to sell coupon booklets for $5 each. Inside each booklet, there will be a coupon could for a $10 savings when shopping at Younkers or its sister Herberger’s stores.

Meanwhile, the non-profits will be able to keep 100 percent of the proceeds of the coupon booklet sales.

“Last November, 46 groups signed up to participate in our Fall Community Day promotion,” said Mayer. “It earned $16,000 for them.”

Twice each year, Younkers holds its Community Day promotions in the fall and spring, benefiting hundreds of charities locally.

The coupon booklets are good at all Younkers and Herberger’s stores everywhere Feb. 28.

According to Mayer, non-profit organizations are invited to contact the store immediately about participating in t he Feb. 28 Community Day.
