Martin P. Heyer, 89
Martin Paul Heyer, 89, of Austin, died at his home on Feb. 1, 2009. He was born June 5, 1919 to Max and Alma (Wagner) Heyer in Morristown, Minn., where he was baptized on July 6, 1919 and confirmed on April 9, 1933 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. He received his education Trinity Lutheran School. He served in World War II from Jan. 6, 1941 until Aug. 12, 1945, stationed in the Army with duty stations in Germany and Alaska. He married Rita Fisher on Nov. 6, 1946 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Morristown. They made their home in Austin where Martin was employed by Geo. A. Hormel and Co. for over 38 years, retiring from the hog-kill in 1982. A member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, American Legion and VFW, he enjoyed fishing, dancing, gardening, yard work, decorating for Christmas and his “grandchildren,” nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his wife, Rita, Austin; sisters, Arlene (Kenny) Edwards, Austin, Mable Spitzack, Morristown, sisters-in-law, Mary Heyer, Faribault, Anna Houglum, Medford, Marian Fisher, Owatonna, Elaine Fisher, Blaine, Pat Heyer, Faribault, Ethel (Walter) Halla, Owatonna; brother-in-law, Henry Halla, Owatonna; Godchildren; special “grandchildren” and “great-grandchildren;” many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Max, and brothers, Melvin and Raymond.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 6, 2009 at Worlein Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216. The family prefers memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Austin and to AMC Hospice.
