Bail was set at $200,000 or $100,000 with conditions for an Austin man accused of beating a 69-year-old at a downtown bar.

Marieo Joneth Olivayes, 28, is charged with felony first-degree assault for allegedly attacking Randall Damon the night of Feb. 18 at The Ville. The victim had to be airlifted to a Rochester hospital with possible broken ribs and neck, facial fractures and lacerations.

According to court records, officers responded to The Ville Wednesday, Feb. 18 to the report of an assault in the men’s restroom. Upon officers’ arrival, the victim was found surrounded by people putting ice on his face to control the bleeding.

Damon claimed the defendant attacked him from behind in the restroom, where he was punched in the face and “hit all over.” Officers discovered blood on the walls and toilet in the restroom.

Witnesses said the defendant had been bothering the victim at the Salvation Army, and he had assaulted Damon before, although it was not reported. The defendant was arrested in the 1000 block of Second Avenue Northeast. A doctor classified the victim’s injuries as “great bodily harm.”
