LETTER: Mark your calendars

Published 9:57 am Thursday, February 12, 2009

I don’t quite understand what always seems to be going on with the fate of our fire department. Yes to 24-hour coverage, no to 24-hour coverage. OK, the citizens spoke up (loudly) and expressed genuine concern over cutting out 24-hour coverage so we have it back, well, temporarily. There is another meeting which has been changed several times scheduled for today at 4 p.m. Seems to me someone doesn’t want the public to know about it because if we did, people would surely show up … again.

It is time once again for the citizens to band together and support our full-time firefighters. Once again, we need to defend our rights. Once and for all, I want an answer, a straight honest answer, what is going on? Why does it appear that this is being done behind our backs? What does the city council, or the mayor, or the fire chief, or anyone hope to achieve? I don’t get it, and I don’t think I’m the only one with the feeling that we, the public, are being deceived.

It’s today at 4 p.m. in the basement in council chambers. If you don’t know where, it’s the basement in the building where you pay your utility bill. I would personally like to ask anyone and everyone that is concerned to please show up and support our full-time firefighters.
